On the morning of July 25, Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen (born in 1960) in a state of anxiety and impatience came to the Party Committee headquarters of Tam Thang ward (HCMC) to receive the portrait of his biological father, martyr Nguyen Trung Thanh, which has been restored. After receiving the portrait, memories of his father seemed to revive in the man who was over sixty years old. Mr. Tuyen quickly returned home to bring his father's portrait to the family altar.
According to Mr. Tuyen, his father enlisted in the army in February 1961, suffered injuries from the war and sacrificed in 1969 in Quang Tri. He still remembers the childhood joy when his father came to visit his family, being taken out to play by his father...
Mr. Tuyen said that for many years, the family has only kept and worshiped martyr Nguyen Trung Thanh through a photo restored a long time ago. Therefore, when that face appeared clearly through the photo just restored, he seemed to see the true image of his father again, no longer just memories in memory.
Receiving this photo, I am touched, and very happy to welcome my father back to his family and grandchildren after a long long business trip," Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen shared.
Along with Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen, Mr. Ngo Van Tuyen (born in 1957) also received the restored portrait of martyr Ngo Van Gat and quickly brought it home, because his mother was also waiting at home. For many years, martyr Ngo Van Gat has been worshiped by his family through a photo cut from an old film.
The moment she saw the memorial photo of martyr Ngo Van Gat being restored, the eyes of Mrs. Hoang Thi Cuu (born in 1935, martyr's wife) suddenly lit up. Then quickly, together with her son, she brought the memorial photo to the altar on the 3rd floor - where she rarely gets to because of her old age.
According to Mr. Ngo Van Tuyen, martyr Ngo Van Gat enlisted in 1965 under a mobilization order and participated in a transport unit. In early May 1968, Mr. Gat sacrificed himself on the way to duty.
When my father sacrificed, I was still young, but the memories of my father are never forgotten. I still remember vividly when he took me to the district, I sat outside crying waiting for him to meet; or when he washed my feet and hands for me... I also thank Team Lee team for their efforts to restore the photo, especially the kindness of the team is very precious," said Mr. Ngo Van Tuyen.
On July 25, the Ho Chi Minh City Command, Ho Chi Minh City Police coordinated with the Party Committee and People's Committee of Tam Thang ward to organize the handover of 19 restored martyr's portraits to relatives and worshipers of martyrs in the area, on the occasion of the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day. The restored portraits awarded in the program have contributed to filling the void in memory, so that martyrs can reunite more clearly with their loved ones after decades of being just images in memory.
