On July 24, information from the Command of Military Region 2, immediately after launching the 500-day and night Campaign, the unit focused on leading and directing drastically, mobilizing maximum forces and vehicles to perform tasks.
Steering Committee 515 of the Military Region develops plans, assigns specific tasks to each agency, unit, and locality, and implements them according to the "6 clear" motto: clear people, clear tasks, clear time, clear responsibilities, clear products and clear authority.
Units also strengthened specialized forces, established teams to clear bombs and mines, explosives combined with searching for and repatriating martyrs' remains.
Before performing their duties, officers and soldiers are thoroughly trained in the field, especially in areas identified as key areas with a lot of information about martyrs' graves.
In parallel with that, Military Region 2 closely coordinates with Lao Cai, Phu Tho, Tuyen Quang, Lai Chau, Son La, Dien Bien provinces to survey, collect, verify information, organize the search, exhumation and repatriation of martyrs' remains.
After more than 100 days of campaign deployment, the Steering Committee 515 of Military Region 2 has received 487 sources of information related to martyrs and martyrs' graves.
After the review and screening process, a lot of valuable information has been added to the database, effectively serving the work of determining location and organizing searches.
Up to now, the forces of Military Region 2 have collected 143 sets of martyrs' remains. This result has the important contribution of local authorities, veterans, historical witnesses and people in providing information and supporting forces to perform tasks.
According to Military Region 2, the search work is still facing many difficulties as the war has receded, the terrain has changed due to natural disasters, infrastructure development and production.
Many battlefield traces are gone, witness sources are decreasing, while many search areas are deep in the forest, on high mountains or still contain bombs, mines, and explosives.
In dangerous terrain conditions and harsh weather, officers and soldiers still persistently stick to the area, verify each source of information, and compare each place name to find traces of martyrs.
For them, each remains found is not only a comrade returning to motherland but also a consolation, alleviating the pain for relatives after many years of waiting.
