More than 70% of Tet kumquats in Hoi An have been purchased by traders at higher prices than last year, bringing good income to the people.

According to Mr. Nguyen The Hung, Vice Chairman of Hoi An City People's Committee, Quang Nam Province, at the end of the year, in terms of agriculture in general, and flowers and ornamental plants in particular, the weather has been quite unusual. Heavy rains concentrated after the 23rd of the 12th lunar month have greatly affected farmers' planting of winter crops and ornamental plants for Tet. Due to prolonged rain, the growth of flowers and ornamental plants has also been greatly affected.

"Up to now, traders have ordered over 70% of the kumquat trees in Hoi An. The total number of kumquat pots in the city is over 100,000, of which Cam Ha commune accounts for over 70,000 pots. Regarding the selling price, for beautiful trees, the price is higher than last year, so up to now, basic activities have been stable," said Mr. Nguyen The Hung.

According to Mr. Hung, Hoi An's direction is to organize support activities for people such as at the 2025 Spring Flower Market, the locality has exempted fees and used the city budget to organize. In 2024, the city will prepare a dossier to submit to the province and the province has recognized Hoi An kumquat growing as a traditional profession. Cam Ha commune, Hoi An city has nearly 600 households growing kumquat, this is the main income generating profession for local people.

Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, in Trang Suot village, Cam Ha commune, Hoi An city shared: "This year there is less rain and storms, less disease development, so the kumquats have many fruits, ripen evenly, and the selling price is higher than every year. Currently, all the kumquats have been ordered by traders."

According to Mr. Dung, each year, kumquat trees bear fruit 2 to 3 times, growers have to cut them all to wait for the fruiting season at the end of the year. This year, he and his wife planted 400 kumquat trees, earning 200 million VND, all the beautiful kumquat trees have been bought by traders, so people are very happy and excited because they have income. Many people in Cam Ha commune believe that from growing kumquats, their income in agriculture is higher than from other products and other crops.
