Dak Lak - In recent years, the authorities of Krong Nang district have made efforts to propagate and mobilize people to eliminate the bad habit of getting married to improve the quality of life.

Step by step pushing back bad customs

Previously, child marriage has caused many young families in some areas of Krong Nang district to fall into poverty, lack of education, and illness, leading to illegal marriage.

Faced with the above situation, in recent years, local authorities have focused on propaganda and mobilization to raise awareness of the people. Thereby, minimizing the situation of child marriage in ethnic minority communities.

Ms. M.T.M (in Ea Dah commune, Krong Nang district) is one of the people in the area who got married early at the age of 14. "I feel regretful for getting married early, I myself violated the law because of poverty" - Ms. M said.

"When the commune officials mobilized and propagated about the harmful effects of algae, I was alert. Since then, I have often reminded and advised children in the area not to get married early, just at the right age to get married", Ms. M added.

The leader of the People's Committee of Ea Dah commune, Krong Nang district admitted: "There are cases where when making an ID card, they are only discovered to be child marriage. The problem of child marriage in the locality has not stopped, lasting from generation to generation.

Therefore, we always focus on integrating propaganda to people to eliminate child marriage through seminars and training sessions. In 2024, the situation of child marriage in the area has basically decreased sharply compared to previous years".

Helping people improve their lives

According to the People's Committee of Krong Nang district, the propaganda and change of people's awareness of bad customs is in the plan to help the district successfully implement the goals and tasks of the national target program for socio-economic development of ethnic minority and mountainous areas.

Therefore, authorities at all levels in the district always pay attention to and completely resolve this situation. In recent years, the locality has gradually tried to push back the problem of child marriage".

"Through the implementation of training courses, disseminating laws periodically, many people in the district have grasped the policies and guidelines of the Party and the legal policies of the State. Since then, by removing backward customs, many poor households have been able to develop their own economy and improve their lives," Mr. Tuy added.
