In recent years, Lao Cai has invested more than 1,900 billion VND to build and upgrade a series of medical facilities in the province.

Reduce the load on upper level hospitals

From 2021 to present, Lao Cai has 24 infrastructure investment projects implemented at provincial, district, and regional polyclinic levels. The total investment of the projects is 1,903.8 billion VND.

Typical examples include the project to expand the scale of Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital to 1,000 beds (building a new 9-storey building with a floor area of ​​over 29,000m2 and a total investment of 250 billion VND); building new buildings for provincial units.

The district level built 6/9 new hospitals with a scale of 250 beds, the total investment for each project is over 200 billion VND, including the general hospitals of the districts: Muong Khuong, Van Ban, Bac Ha, Bat Xat, Bao Yen, Bao Thang.

Through surveys, Bat Xat, Van Ban, and Bao Yen hospitals have all completed hardware construction and are currently being completed, expected to be completed and put into use in 2025.

In addition, Lao Cai also invested in building 6/9 new medical centers in the districts: Bao Thang, Bao Yen, Van Ban, Bac Ha, Bat Xat Si Ma Cai. The medical centers have completed the rough construction, expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Currently, Lao Cai has 5 provincial hospitals: Provincial General Hospital, Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, Traditional Medicine Hospital, Endocrinology Hospital, Rehabilitation Hospital and 5 provincial centers. For the district level, the whole province currently has 9 medical centers; 18 general clinics under the district general hospital; 152 commune and ward health stations performing the task of medical examination and treatment for the people.

Rush to complete

According to Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, these days, the Bat Xat District General Hospital Project with a total investment of 200 billion VND, invested by Lao Cai Province's Construction Investment Project Management Board, is being urgently completed.

Construction will start in 2023, with a construction scale including: a 7-storey inpatient treatment building, a technical and medical examination building, an administrative block and a medical center, and other ancillary items.

"After more than 1 year of construction, the project has completed more than 80% of the work volume, and is expected to be put into operation in the first quarter of 2025" - the leader of the Lao Cai Provincial Investment and Construction Project Management Board informed. Next is the Si Ma Cai District Medical Center with an investment capital of 140 billion VND, which started construction in 2023, and has completed some items to welcome patients. In particular, the Muong Khuong District General Hospital project with a total capital of nearly 220 billion VND, with a scale of 250 beds, has been put into use since March 2024.

In addition, the Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital Project Phase 2 with an investment capital of 250 billion VND, Van Ban District General Hospital with 200 billion VND... are also being constructed by the construction unit.

“These are considered important investment items to improve the medical capacity of Lao Cai province, helping to effectively implement the goals of population health and health care right from the beginning. From there, Lao Cai General Hospital will gradually assume the function of a regional hospital according to the plan for the grassroots health network until 2030 approved by the Prime Minister” - Vice Chairwoman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Giang Thi Dung shared.
