In the early days of May, in Cam Duong ward and Bao Thang commune, the construction atmosphere was urgent. At the construction site, excavators and trucks operated continuously, workers divided shifts to work, taking advantage of each favorable weather period to accelerate.
In the area behind Lao Cai Provincial Political School, the embankment project to handle landslides and stabilize taluy slopes with a total investment of about 95 billion VND is gradually being completed.
Along the taluy, solid concrete embankments have been formed, forming a solid "shield" to protect the residential area below.

According to records, most of the main items have been basically completed. Vulnerable locations that previously posed a risk of landslides are now reinforced more firmly.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien (resident in Cam Duong ward) said that in previous years, every time heavy rain lasted, people were always worried about soil and rocks from the embankment overflowing.
There were times when many households had to temporarily move to other places. Now seeing the embankment being made solid, people are also more reassured," Ms. Hien shared.

Representatives of the construction unit said that the project had encountered difficulties due to site clearance issues and fluctuations in material and fuel prices.
However, the contractor has mobilized maximum machinery and manpower, and organized continuous construction to compensate for progress. The goal is to complete the project before July 30, promptly protecting residential areas during this year's rainy and flood season.
According to the Lao Cai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board, the investor is regularly inspecting the site, urging progress, and at the same time requesting construction units to ensure quality and labor safety.
Overtime and shift work are implemented to shorten construction time in favorable weather conditions.

At the same time, at the embankment construction site against landslides on the Red River bank section passing through Bao Thang commune, progress is being accelerated. The project has a total investment of about 170 billion VND, a length of nearly 2km, passing through an area that is frequently affected by landslides during the rainy season.
Records on May 6 show that the foundation items have been completed, and the embankment body is being deployed simultaneously. Along the route, many construction teams are arranged, with dozens of workers and a system of machinery operating continuously.
According to Mr. Le Minh Truong - technical officer of Corporation 319 (Ministry of National Defense), so far the construction volume has reached more than 80%. The unit is focusing on completing the top of the embankment surface before the end of June to ensure the ability to respond when the river water level rises.
The construction process is inevitably difficult. At times when the water level of the Red River rises, the construction teams are forced to temporarily stop, waiting for the water to recede before they can continue. In addition, increased costs of materials, gasoline and labor also create great pressure for contractors.
However, to ensure progress, the investor has requested units to open more construction fronts, maximize favorable weather, and strengthen supervision to limit risks during the implementation process.

According to the assessment of functional agencies of Lao Cai province, embankment projects against landslides in the area are not only of urgent significance in disaster prevention and control, but also a long-term solution to stabilize the terrain, protect land, infrastructure and riverside residential areas.
When completed, these embankments will contribute to minimizing the risk of landslides, helping people feel secure in living, and at the same time create a foundation for sustainable development in riverside and taluy areas.
