Qualify for city status
In early 2025, Mr. Tran Xuan Phuong - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ky Anh town - said that currently, the procedures to establish Ky Anh City (based on the entire natural area and population of Ky Anh town) are continuing to be completed for submission to competent authorities for approval. According to the plan, Ky Anh town will become a city in 2025.
At the end of 2024, Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh - Permanent Vice Chairman of Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee also signed a proposal to establish Ky Anh City.
According to the report, Ky Anh City has an inner-city area of 221.81 square kilometers and a population of 94,606 people, including the wards of Hung Tri, Ky Trinh, Ky Thinh, Ky Long, Ky Lien, Ky Phuong, Ky Ninh and Ky Nam. The suburban area is expected to have an area of 63.73 square kilometers and a population of 25,545 people, including 3 communes: Ky Ha, Ky Loi and Ky Hoa.
The master plan of Ky Anh town to 2035 determines that Ky Anh urban area is the comprehensive economic center in the South of Ha Tinh province, an urban area with an important role in promoting the socio-economic development of the North Central region.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Linh, over the past time, Ky Anh town has developed into a modern and dynamic urban area; socio-economic results have achieved many positive results, economic growth rate has always been maintained at a fairly good level.
The economic structure has shifted positively towards increasing the proportion of industry - construction and services; increasing the proportion of non-agricultural labor and reducing the proportion of agricultural labor. Average income per capita reached 62.65 million VND/person/year.
Culture and society in the area are taken care of, social infrastructure and technical infrastructure systems are invested in upgrading and synchronously built, the basic traffic system is paved with asphalt and concrete.
Water supply and drainage systems have been invested in and completed, main roads have been equipped with public lighting systems; households have access to clean water; waste is collected and treated hygienically...
Ky Anh town has Vung Ang Economic Zone and 2 port clusters of Vung Ang and Son Duong with nearly 500 large and small enterprises investing, creating jobs for more than 20,000 local workers and neighboring areas.
On the basis of meeting the conditions to establish a City, at the end of 2024, the Executive Committee of the Ha Tinh Provincial Party Committee met and voted unanimously to establish Ky Anh City in 2025.

According to Mr. Tran Xuan Phuong - Vice Chairman of Ky Anh Town People's Committee, Ky Anh Town has many advantages in industrial development because it has Vung Ang Economic Zone.
In recent times, Vung Ang Economic Zone has attracted many large projects such as the Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Complex and Son Duong Deep-water Port Project, the Vung Ang Seaport system with many wharves, and the Vung Ang 1 Thermal Power Plant and Vung Ang 2 Thermal Power Plant projects.

“Large production and business projects have created jobs for thousands of local workers in particular and Ha Tinh province in general. Many supporting industrial, commercial and service services have also developed. Thereby, creating jobs, generating income and improving people's lives,” Mr. Phuong shared.
In addition to industrial development, according to Mr. Phuong, Ky Anh town also has a long coastline, the national relic of the Temple of Che Thang, wife of Nguyen Thi Bich Chau, and the Hoanh Son Quan relic to develop tourism services. In the coming time, Ky Anh town will continue to attract investment in building urban areas and coastal resorts.
Mr. Phuong affirmed that Ky Anh town has enough potential and advantages to become a vibrant industrial city and urban area in the South of Ha Tinh province.
