In the afternoon of July 11, monitoring from satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning positioning showed that convective clouds are developing strongly and causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in many areas in the South.
Areas experiencing thunderstorms include Ben Cat, Chanh Phu Hoa, Tan Uyen, Tan Hiep wards; Nha Be, Bac Tan Uyen, Phuoc Hoa, An Long, Bau Bang and Dau Tieng communes.
In the next 3 hours, convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers and thunderstorms in the above localities, then it is likely to expand to neighboring areas. Common rainfall is from 5-20 mm, in some places over 30 mm.
The meteorological agency warns that during thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind at level 5-7 (8-17 m/s). Localized heavy rain may cause flooding in low-lying areas.
Regarding weather patterns, in the next 24-48 hours, the low pressure trough with its axis through the Northern region connecting to super typhoon BAVI in the Northeast of the Philippines will continue to weaken. Meanwhile, the Southwest monsoon maintains medium to strong intensity, while the upper subtropical high pressure tends to weaken.
From now until around July 14-15, the low pressure trough through the North will continue to weaken, then form a new low pressure trough. The Southwest monsoon will gradually decrease to the average level, while the subtropical high pressure tends to encroach westward.
Due to the influence of the above weather patterns, from July 12-14, many areas of the South continue to experience heavy rain, concentrated in the afternoon and evening.
The meteorological agency notes that thunderstorms in the coming days may be accompanied by tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind, causing the risk of falling trees, damage to houses, infrastructure works and affecting agricultural production. Heavy rain can also cause localized flooding, causing traffic congestion and affecting people's lives.
