Many urban green trees in Kon Tum are damaged

The situation of urban green tree encroachment in Kon Tum area, Quang Ngai province affects the living environment and urban aesthetics.

According to a representative of Kon Tum Urban Environment Company, many green trees with a diameter of about 20cm and a height of nearly 7m have had a circumference of the shell removed around the trunk. This is a dangerous trick because the tree bark plays a role in transporting water and nutrients from the roots to the trunk, branches and leaves. When peeled off, the veins are cut off, making the tree unable to continue growing, gradually withering, yellowing leaves and then dying over time.

It is worth mentioning that this behavior does not happen randomly but is often carried out calculatedly. Some subjects take advantage of loopholes in management to intentionally weaken green trees for personal purposes. When trees die or show signs of danger, they will propose to cut down, thereby creating space on the sidewalk or frontage area to serve business, trading, placing billboards or using for other private purposes.

This trick is considered difficult to detect immediately because trees do not die immediately but gradually deplete over time. This "silent" factor causes many green trees to be destroyed without timely treatment, leading to great damage to the urban green tree system that needs many years to develop.

Functional agencies believe that this is an act of destroying public property, directly infringing on the urban ecosystem. Not only losing shade and reducing air quality, the death of trees also poses a potential risk of unsafety, especially during the rainy and storm season when trees are weak and easily broken.

According to the provisions of Decree No. 16/2022/ND-CP of the Government, acts such as peeling the bark, chiseling the trunk, poisoning or illegally cutting down green trees are strictly punished, with fines ranging from 20 to 30 million VND. Violators must also compensate for all damages and replant trees as requested by functional agencies.

Faced with this situation, the police of wards in Kon Tum and Quang Ngai urban areas recommend that people raise awareness of protecting green trees, and not commit or assist acts of encroachment in any form.

At the same time, when detecting signs of encroachment or other acts of sabotage, it is necessary to promptly report to functional forces for handling, contributing to maintaining a green, clean, and beautiful living environment for the community.

Representatives of Kon Tum Urban Environment Company are statistically counting the number of peeled trees, reporting to the Police agency to have a thorough handling plan.
