On the morning of September 11, information from the People's Committee of Bao Yen district showed that up to now, 37 households with a total of 158 people have been affected.
Of these, 18 victims' bodies were found, 17 injured people were taken to Bao Yen District General Hospital for treatment.
Due to the serious condition, during the night, 5 cases had to be transferred to Viet Duc Hospital, Hanoi for treatment.
In addition, 48 people have been confirmed safe, while 77 people are still missing.
Last night (September 10), Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Trinh Xuan Truong was present at Bao Yen District Hospital to visit and encourage the victims.
Then, an urgent meeting was held at night, directing the establishment of a forward command center to directly direct the response organization at 5am this morning.
The recovery work is facing many obstacles, especially in terms of infrastructure as roads have been severely damaged by floods.
Implementing the direction of the Ministry of Transport, the Vietnam Road Administration urgently requested Road Management Area 1 to mobilize road repair and maintenance companies 242, 244 and Minh Duc Company to mobilize maximum machinery to support the Lao Cai Provincial Department of Transport to open a path from Bac Ngam down so that the provincial forces can come to rescue.
Throughout the night, in addition to urgently trying to rescue victims, the forces also had to make efforts to clear the roads and open routes from Bao Yen district and from the center of this district to the landslide scene to facilitate vehicles and forces to access and provide support.
In addition, at the landslide site, there are still power outages, telecommunication outages, and other infrastructure conditions are very limited, making rescue work extremely difficult.
Previously, the telecommunication signal was also interrupted for many hours. Fortunately, last night, Viettel supported broadcasting to Lang Nu village to facilitate command and communication.
According to Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong - Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee, immediately after the landslide occurred, Lao Cai reported to the Government, Ministry of Agriculture and Military Region 2, and requested support from Military Region 2.
Today, many professional forces are coming to support, so it is most necessary to do a good job of coordination, allocation calculation, and appropriate human resource arrangement.
Besides, due to the extremely unusual weather, the risk of landslides and flash floods is always present, so weather forecasting and field assessment are especially important to organize and deploy forces effectively.
Regarding the solution of using sniffer dogs to search for victims, authorities are concerned that if the victim is buried 5-7m deep, sniffer dogs will have difficulty finding them.
At the scene, a large area with hundreds of people living here for 5-6 generations, has now become desolate because of the mud buried after the flash flood.
"The flood came down from the top of the mountain, no one could have expected it," a resident shared while crying.
Survivors with red eyes are sitting by the stream waiting for news of missing relatives. Meanwhile, authorities are urgently working on search and rescue.
Due to the influence of storm No. 3 (storm Yagi), from the night of September 7 to September 10, moderate to heavy rain occurred over a wide area in Lao Cai province, causing flash floods and landslides in many localities.
Up to now, 39 people have been confirmed dead, 108 people are missing and 61 people are injured.
