On the evening of October 5, the Government and the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front launched a campaign to support the elimination of temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide.

The launching ceremony with the theme "Warm home for my compatriots" took place online, chaired by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

At the launching ceremony, Politburo member, Party Central Committee Secretary, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Do Van Chien emphasized that this is a program with profound humanistic meaning, demonstrating comradeship and patriotism.

Mr. Do Van Chien said that the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front earnestly calls on individuals, groups, business communities, overseas Vietnamese, and foreigners living and working in Vietnam to participate in donating and supporting with State resources, striving to soon complete the goal of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses.

The Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front pledged to make every effort to ensure publicity, transparency and close supervision, to prevent negativity, and to ensure that the donated funds reach those in need directly.

According to Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Dao Ngoc Dung, over the past years, with the attention and direction of the Party and State leaders and the participation of the entire political system, Vietnam has achieved positive results in implementing social security policies and implementing a multidimensional, inclusive and sustainable poverty reduction program.

In particular, efforts to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses have achieved positive results. More than 1.7 million houses have been newly built or repaired for the poor and those in difficult circumstances.

However, according to the Minister, the challenges ahead are still huge. The latest review results show that the country currently has about 400,000 temporary and dilapidated houses that do not meet the "3 hard" standards (hard foundation, hard frame, hard roof), especially in remote areas, areas that are frequently affected by natural disasters and climate change.

Minister Dao Ngoc Dung proposed that the whole country should promote the spirit of self-reliance and self-reliance of localities. Provinces and cities are divided into 4 groups, the economically developed group will take responsibility for eliminating temporary houses in the area, the disadvantaged local group, the poor province group... will have appropriate mobilization and support mechanisms to carry out the task.

In addition, the Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs proposed that competent authorities allow the use of regular spending savings in 2024 from local and central budgets along with socialized resources to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses by both assigning tasks and assigning support targets by address, so that localities have the conditions to support other localities. The Government mobilizes and assigns ministries, agencies, banks, and enterprises to directly support disadvantaged and poor localities.

In addition, it is proposed to mobilize the joint efforts, consensus, and participation of the entire political system, business community, and people, spreading widely throughout society and the community for this program.

The Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs emphasized the determination that by the end of 2025, the whole country will basically eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, reaching the target 5 years ahead of schedule.
