During the process of grasping the local situation, Hoa Khanh Ward Police discovered 2 people wearing Buddhist costumes selling incense and mobilizing people to contribute money. Realizing that the incident had many unusual signs, the Police force conducted verification. Through inspection, the religious establishment mentioned by the subjects did not have the policy of sending people to sell incense or mobilize donations as introduced to the people.
Working with the police agency, these two people admitted that they were not Buddhists of the pagoda. The subjects wore Buddhist costumes and claimed to be people of the pagoda in order to create trust to facilitate incense sales as well as mobilize people to contribute money.
Currently, Hoa Khanh Ward Police have prepared a case file, taken statements and requested the subjects to stop the above-mentioned acts. At the same time, functional agencies continue to verify and handle according to the provisions of law.
Through the incident, Hoa Khanh Ward Police recommends that people raise their vigilance against cases of taking advantage of the name of religious establishments, charities or humanitarian activities to sell goods and call for donations.
People need to proactively learn and verify information about organizations and individuals who stand out to mobilize before donating or contributing money. Checking the authenticity of charity and fundraising activities will help limit the risk of bad actors taking advantage of trust for personal gain.
