Pollution in many places
Recorded by Lao Dong Newspaper reporters on February 5, on the Dong Hoi City bypass (Quang Binh province), the number of vehicles moving was large. Dust on both sides of the road has been swept up many times. Vehicles such as motorbikes are moving equipped with masks and sealed.
Faced with the situation of air pollution showing signs of increasing, Vice Chairman of Quang Binh Provincial People's Committee Doan Ngoc Lam gave strong instructions to control and improve environmental quality, ensure people's health and develop the economy sustainably.
According to monitoring data, air quality in Quang Binh has differences between regions. In urban areas, the dust levels are floating, PM10, SO2, NO2 and CO are mostly within the permitted limits. However, on the main traffic axes, TSP dust levels at certain times still exceed the standard level, affecting the living environment and people's health.
Industrial production areas also recorded a state of standard TSP dust concentration, especially at mineral exploitation and construction material production facilities. Meanwhile, rural areas have better air quality but are still affected by spontaneous agriculture absorption after harvest, increasing SO2 and NO2. Some farming areas also show signs of pollution due to H2S and NH3.
In order to minimize air pollution, the Provincial People's Committee has issued a document requesting districts and communes to strengthen propaganda and mobilize people not to burn straw, solid waste and agricultural additives to limit the occurrence of polluted emissions. For mineral exploitation and construction materials production areas, the province requires establishments to strictly implement regulations on dust and emissions control.
The Provincial People's Committee has issued a plan to implement the environmental protection strategy until 2030, with a vision to 2050. This plan focuses on developing public transport, reducing emissions from personal vehicles and promoting environmentally friendly means of transport such as electric vehicles and vehicles running on renewable energy.
Solid waste collection and treatment have also been promoted, with the trend of gradually reducing the landfill rate and increasing recycling. This not only helps reduce the impact on air quality but also improves the efficiency of resource use.
Many challenges
Despite many positive results, environmental management in Quang Binh still faces some challenges. The legal document system on emission control is still not specific, lacking effective inter-sectoral coordination mechanisms. The socialization of environmental protection has not been promoted, while investment resources for research and application of pollution treatment technology are still limited.
Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Doan Ngoc Lam emphasized the need to promote cooperation between departments, branches and local authorities to synchronously implement solutions. At the same time, the province will continue to call for investment, apply modern technology to control and handle air pollution.
To continue improving air quality, Quang Binh province sets out key goals, control traffic emissions, promote the development of clean energy vehicles; expand green areas, strengthen the construction of parks and urban green spaces; support people to apply agricultural by-products treatment technology, limit straw burning; strictly control industrial production activities, ensure establishments comply with emissions regulations; promote propaganda, raise public awareness of environmental protection and minimize negative impacts on the air.
With synchronous solutions and strong direction from the Provincial People's Committee, Quang Binh is gradually improving air quality, aiming at sustainable development and protecting the living environment for people.
