Metro Line No. 2 has a total length of more than 11 km, including an underground section of about 9.2 km, a 265 m transition section, an elevated section of nearly 846 m and a depot approach section of more than 900 m.
The route is built according to double-track standards, modern electrification.
Along the route, 12 station buildings are arranged, including 10 underground stations (including Ben Thanh central station), 1 elevated station and 1 Tham Luong depot.

An important highlight of the project is that the route length is extended by more than 200 m to directly connect to Ben Thanh station of Metro Line No. 1.
Notably, the open excavation section behind Ben Thanh station (below Pham Hong Thai street) after completion of construction will be used as an underground parking lot, contributing to reducing traffic pressure in the central area.

Ben Thanh underground station of Metro Line No. 2 is also designed synchronously to ensure intercommunication with many important urban railway lines such as Metro Line No. 1, Metro Line No. 4 (Dong Thanh - Hiep Phuoc) and the Ben Thanh - Can Gio Metro line in the future.

From here, the Ho Chi Minh City metro network will expand in strategic directions: the East connects Thu Thiem urban area, the East of the city; the Northwest towards Tham Luong; further away are Can Gio and Long Thanh airport.
Regarding technical structure, the underground section of Metro Line 2 includes 2 single round tunnels, more than 9 km long, stretching from Ben Thanh station to the Truong Chinh - Pham Van Bach intersection area.
Each tunnel has an outer diameter of 6.8 m, an inner diameter of 6.2 m. The maximum depth from the bottom of the tunnel to the natural ground is about 30 m.

The underground stations on the route are designed to consist of 2 floors. The waiting lobby (underground floor 1) is arranged with ticket sales, ticket check-in areas, station service rooms, along with elevators, escalators, stairs. The space in the middle of the station is for technical rooms such as ventilation, air conditioning, and signal information.

The ke ga floor (subway level 2) mainly uses island-shaped ke ga to increase convenience for passengers getting on and off trains and changing routes, equipped with ke ga barriers and modern safety systems.

Tan Binh station is the only elevated station of Metro Line 2. The station consists of 2 floors, of which the 1st floor is a ticket stall, commercial area and functional rooms, taking advantage of natural ventilation.
The 2nd floor is a mezzanine with a mezzanine design, connected by stairs, escalators and elevators for the disabled.

Tham Luong Depot has a total area of more than 23 hectares, including 21 main functional areas such as a train station, repair and maintenance workshop, power station, route operating building and auxiliary technical items, playing the role of the operating "heart" of the entire Metro Line No. 2.

Metro Line 2 is upgraded to GoA4 automation level - the highest level currently, allowing completely automatic operation, without drivers and staff on board.
In emergency situations or when special operating requirements arise, operating staff at the Control Center - OCC can remotely intervene to ensure absolute safety for passengers and maintain stable operation throughout the route.

Ho Chi Minh City sets a goal to complete Metro Line No. 2 by the end of 2030.
In the early stages of operation, the route uses 3-car trains, with a maximum operating speed of 80 -110 km/h, at peak times it can serve more than 14,400 passengers per hour, in each direction.
