Ho Chi Minh City is about to start construction of 3 seaports worth more than 187,000 billion VND

Ho Chi Minh City - Can Gio International Transshipment Port, Cai Mep Ha Port and Cai Mep Port phase 2 will start construction and be grounded in April 2026.

This information is stated in the document of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction reporting to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the progress of seaport projects, on the occasion of the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of the South, national reunification (April 30, 1975 – April 30, 2026).

The Cai Mep Ha general port and container project has a scale of 351.2 ha (229.4 ha of land and 121.8 ha of water area in front of the wharf). The total length of the wharf is more than 6.8 km, designed capacity is 11 million TEU/year. The ship receiving capacity is 24,000 TEU (250,000 tons). The total investment of the project is about 50. 200 billion VND.

Phase 1 will build 2 900m long wharves to receive 250,000-ton ships, 9 1,027m long barges to receive 5,000-ton ships; land area of 97.3 ha, water area of 16.2 ha, capacity of 2 million TEU/year. Total investment in phase 1 is about 14,867 billion VND.

The investor is a consortium of Geleximco Group, International Transport and Trading Joint Stock Company (ITC) and State Capital Investment Corporation (SCIC). The groundbreaking ceremony is expected to take place before April 30, 2026.

The Cai Mep Gemadept - Terminal Link Port project has a total area of 93 ha (71.6 ha of land and 21.4 ha of water surface), the main wharf is 1,150 m long.

Phase 1 has completed 800 m of main wharves and 190 m of other wharves, with a land area of 33 ha/71.6 ha, receiving ships with a tonnage of up to 232,000 tons.

Phase 2 will build additional main wharves 285 m long to receive 250,000 tons of ships, upstream wharves 359 m long to receive 150,000 tons of ships, barge wharves 390 m long to receive ships/barges weighing 5,661 tons; land area 88.94 ha, water area 19.11 ha.

The total investment of phase 2 is about 8,361 billion VND. The investor is Cai Mep Port Joint Stock Company Gemadept - Terminal Link. Groundbreaking ceremony is expected on April 17, 2026.

The Can Gio International Transshipment Port project has an area of about 571 ha. Design capacity of 21 million TEUs/year, receiving container ships over 250,000 tons (24,000 TEUs).

The total length of the main wharf is about 7.4 km. The total investment capital of the project is about 128.872 billion VND (equivalent to 4.99 billion USD).

The expected investor is a consortium of Vietnam National Shipping Lines - JSC, Saigon Port Joint Stock Company and Terminal Investment Limited Holding S.A. The launching ceremony and announcement of the strategic partner is expected on April 30, 2026.
