On January 17, information from the People's Committee of Huu Lung district said that a forest fire had just occurred in the district.
Accordingly, late at night on January 16, Lan Khoang mountain (Lang Ben village, Huu Lien commune, Huu Lung district) was ablaze in a sea of fire. The fire broke out fiercely at around 6 p.m., spreading rapidly to lots 1 and 2, section 5 of the mountain, causing panic among the people.
Ms. Duong Thi Hanh - Vice Chairman of Huu Lung District People's Committee, shared: "As soon as we received the news, we mobilized all security forces, forest rangers, Forest Management Board and fire fighting team to go. However, the rugged mountainous terrain and dry vegetation made the fire fighting extremely difficult."
After hours of struggling with the fire, the fire was only temporarily brought under control at 11pm the same day. Authorities are still examining the scene, assessing the damage and investigating the cause of the fire.
Previously, on January 11, fire also burned down lot 6, compartment 3, sub-area 219A (Ban Chang village, Tan My commune) and sub-area 214 (Ban Thau village, Tan Thanh commune, Van Lang district).
More than 500 people, from soldiers, police, forest rangers to local people, tried their best to control the fire.
The fire was not extinguished until dawn on January 12. It damaged about 21 hectares of forest, mainly litter, bushes and vines on the rocky mountain.
On the afternoon of January 3, another fire broke out fiercely on Duc Tam Street, Van Quan Town. The fire escalated on the high rocky cliff, causing many obstacles for the firefighting force. Immediately, the functional force cleared a firebreak, contained the area and fiercely extinguished the fire after more than 4 hours of fighting.
