For many years now, dozens of households in Xuat Hoa ward, Bac Kan city living near a wood processing and bamboo chopsticks export workshop on the land of Tracimexco Automobile Production and Manufacturing Joint Stock Company (Tracimexco Company) have had to suffer. air, noise and water pollution.
As a household living near the wood factory, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhung, Xuat Hoa ward, shared that for many years, her family and surrounding households have often been tortured by dust and sour odors arising from the activities. of the wood workshop.
"The wood workshop has been operating for many years, including the area that produces wooden chopsticks for export. Every time they dry or boil wooden chopsticks, the smell that comes up is scary.
In addition, every once in a while, they discharge black, sour-smelling water into the canal area behind, located adjacent to the wood factory. Many years like this have caused crabs and fish to disappear; People also don't dare to take water there for farming," Ms. Nhung said.
Sharing the same frustration, Ms. Duong Thi Thuc, Xuat Hoa ward, said that in addition to wastewater discharge, people also often suffer from the smell from wood factory exhaust fumes.
"They have a furnace, around 5 p.m. in the afternoon, black smoke billows out. On days when the wind is calm, the smoke can't rise high, but it spreads to the ground, affecting the residential area. People here also have opinions. many times but up to now the situation has not improved," Ms. Duong Thi Thuc was frustrated.
According to the reporter's research, Tracimexco Company was granted an investment certificate by the People's Committee of Bac Kan province on June 14, 2010 to implement a factory project, manufacturing and assembling cars with a capacity of 6,000 trucks/year with a total investment capital. about 42 billion VND. But after that, the project was not effective and stopped operating.
By the end of 2013, Tracimexco Company had converted and put the production line of wood and bamboo chopsticks into operation. More than a year later, this company was fined for discharge of waste and causing environmental pollution.
In response to continuous feedback from the people, the People's Committee of Bac Kan City has requested the Departments and branches of Bac Kan province to clarify violations in the activities of Tracimexco Company, especially the issue of wood processing causing environmental pollution.
On July 14, talking to reporters, Mr. Vy Cong Suat - Chairman of Xuat Hoa Ward People's Committee - admitted that there is currently a situation where wood factories release smoke, dust and wastewater into the environment, affecting people's daily lives. .
"Recently, the authorities have also regularly inspected activities at the wood workshop. The discharge of wastewater into the canal is not the first time, previously this unit was also administratively fined an amount of about 100 million VND .
In the coming time, the locality will also strengthen monitoring and inspection, and if illegal discharge is detected, it will be handled according to regulations," Mr. Suat informed.
