On May 20, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vinh Long province organized a survey and discussion on the management of Hai Chia Bird Garden in Gia Kiet hamlet, Tra Con commune according to the direction of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee in Official Dispatch No. 6317/UBND-KTN dated May 16, 2026.
The participants include representatives of leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment; Provincial Police; Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Department of Science and Technology; Sub-Department of Environment; Sub-Department of Forest Protection and Biodiversity; Forestry Professional Department; Forest Protection Department Region 5; Chairman of the People's Committee and Head of Tra Con Commune Police and related units.
According to the plan, the survey team will focus on recording the actual management and protection work, the living status of bird species in the bird garden area; and at the same time assess difficulties, obstacles, support needs and management solutions in the coming time.
Through surveys, the Department of Agriculture and Environment will summarize and report to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and definitive solution, ensuring management, biodiversity conservation, protection of the habitat of wild birds and security and order in the locality.
Previously, from May 16, the Department of Agriculture and Environment sent forces from the Sub-Department of Forest Protection and Biodiversity to coordinate with relevant units to be on duty at the Hai Chia Bird Garden area to grasp the situation, propagate and prevent illegal bird hunting.

On May 19, the Department of Agriculture and Environment sent a report to the Vinh Long Provincial People's Committee on the situation related to Hai Chia Bird Garden. According to the report, this area is currently managed and cared for by Mr. Le Van Chia, and is home to many wild bird species.
Reports record that illegal bird hunting still occurs. In a recent survey, functional forces discovered a number of bird individuals died suspected of being hunted and many bird carcasses were buried. According to provided information, on average, about 5-10 bird individuals are hunted each day.
The management and protection of bird gardens is currently facing many difficulties due to the thinness of the forest ranger force, this area is not in the planning of forestry land, so support policies related to forests cannot be applied. The owner of the bird garden is old and has limited health conditions, so it is difficult to maintain regular protection activities.
Vinh Long Department of Agriculture and Environment proposed to continue to strengthen legal propaganda on wildlife protection, coordinate patrols and handle violations; and at the same time study appropriate conservation solutions to maintain a stable living environment for birds in the Hai Chia Bird Garden area.
