The latest report by MotorCyclesData released at the end of July 2026, in the first half of this year, the Vietnamese motorcycle market reached about 1.78 million vehicles, an increase of 14.6% compared to the same period last year. Vietnam continues to be ranked by MotorCyclesData as the 4th largest motorcycle market in the world and the 3rd largest electric bicycle market globally.
Notably, MotorCyclesData noted that the increase in electric vehicle use is making a clear contribution to the overall growth of the market. In the context that many traditional motorcycle brands record mixed developments, electric vehicle manufacturers are growing rapidly.
Prominent in this trend is VinFast. According to MotorCyclesData, the company's sales in the Vietnamese market in the first half of 2026 increased by 112% compared to the same period, thereby rising to second place in the market. Meanwhile, Honda increased by 8%, Yamaha increased by 7.7%. MotorCyclesData also recorded many other electric vehicle brands growing rapidly.
Globally, the updated report on July 28 of MotorCyclesData also ranked VinFast as the fastest growing brand in the group of major motorcycle manufacturers that this unit tracks, with sales increasing by 118% compared to the same period.
The above figures show that electric vehicles are no longer just an additional segment but are becoming a significant driving force for the growth of the Vietnamese motorcycle market.
Real purchasing power is also reflected in data released by businesses. In March 2026 alone, VinFast said it received more than 135,000 orders from the dealer system and produced more than 93,000 electric motorbikes. Among them, Evo and Feliz are the two car lines accounting for the largest number, with more than 52,000 Evos and more than 24,000 Feliz cars delivered to customers in the month.
The increase in electric vehicles takes place in the context that the Vietnamese motorcycle market is already large-scale and is recovering.
Mr. Pham Viet Trung - Deputy Managing Director of HBM Vietnam Joint Stock Company, investor of VinFast Thu Anh electric motorcycle system - commented: "I assess that the trend of switching to electric vehicles in Hanoi is currently taking place very strongly and substantively. This change is largely due to electric vehicle manufacturers continuously researching and constantly improving. Currently, many electric vehicle manufacturers have launched quality car models, beautiful designs and extremely reasonable prices. If previously electric vehicles were often labeled as cars for students, now they have completely met the high mobility of working people, or even technology drivers. The performance, speed and durability of electric vehicles now are really not inferior to traditional gasoline cars.
According to Mr. Trung, customer demand in the past time has also become more diverse. Buyers are not simply looking for an electric vehicle but choosing a car based on travel distance, charging conditions and daily use purpose.
Grasping that need, VinFast is developing options in two directions. One group uses home battery charging or charging pillars, with models like Evo Grand, Feliz 2025; the other group is aiming for flexible battery exchange, with lines like Evo Max or Viper, allowing users to exchange batteries at battery exchange cabinets instead of waiting for charging.
According to Mr. Trung, product diversification and preferential policies help consumers have more choices suitable for their needs and financial capabilities.
With the current growth rate, electric motorbikes are gradually shifting from a new choice to an important part of the two-wheeled vehicle market. The fact that a purely electric brand like VinFast has risen to second place in the market according to MotorCyclesData statistics is a clear sign of this change.
