Accordingly, the BMW XM is going through its most difficult period since it began production in December 2022. This high-performance SUV has had poor sales and this trend continues into the third quarter of 2024.
BMW XM sales in North America in the July-September period this year reached 307 vehicles, down nearly 31% compared to the consumption of 443 vehicles in the same period in 2023.
Meanwhile, also in the third quarter of this year, BMW sold 543 Z4s to customers in the North American region, up 64% compared to last year. Thus, BMW XM sales were lower than that of the 2-seat convertible sports car, a segment that usually has unimpressive sales due to its specific customer base.
BMW's passenger car sales in North America fell 5% in the third quarter, while SUV sales fell 8.5% and MINI sales fell 33% year-over-year. BMW's 3-Series lineup, which was recently updated, also saw sales drop 13.7%. This is not a positive sign for BMW.
Overall, BMW's total sales in the third quarter decreased by 2.1% compared to the same period last year, equivalent to a difference of about 5,740 vehicles. Some car lines still grew well, such as: BMW 5-Series (up 44.7%), BMW 2-Series (up 25.6%) or BMW X4 also increased sales by 41.8% compared to the third quarter of 2024.
However, on the contrary, all products in the MINI brand line in North America saw a decrease in sales. Of which, the MINI Countryman had the biggest decline, with sales 16.4% lower than the same period last year.
