Therefore, if you want to drive through flooded roads, you need to be very careful, even with high-clearance vehicles.
According to automobile engineer Le Van Tach, when entering a flooded area without knowing the depth, the driver should go slowly to avoid sudden water entering the engine and causing the steering arm to be bent or broken.
According to Mr. Tach, if you drive slowly, the car will stall when the water is deep, so the driver should absolutely not start the car and call for help. If the driver intentionally restarts the engine, the air intake system will continue to operate, the pistons are pushed up very quickly by the crankshaft to continue compressing the air. However, the amount of water entering the combustion chamber will exert a huge force back. These two forces will force the boundary arm (leg arm) to deform.
"If it's mild, the arm will be bent and the cylinder wall will be scratched. In severe cases, the arm will break, leading to puncture of the cylinder wall, destroying the engine and incurring huge repair costs. Compared to gasoline engines, diesel engines are more susceptible to hydrostatic shock and serious damage because diesel engines have a higher compression ratio and smaller combustion chamber, so a small amount of water entering the engine can cause hydrostatic shock.
