Previously, Hyundai announced its direction to promote the high-performance vehicle segment with the introduction of the Genesis GV60 Magma and confirmed that the entire Genesis product portfolio in the future will have more Magma versions focused on performance. In which, the Genesis Magma GT model is identified as the key product, representing the technology platform and long-term development orientation of the brand.
According to Hyundai Motor Group CEO Jose Munoz, Genesis is aiming to build a distinct identity, similar to how high-performance car manufacturers such as BMW, Mercedes-AMG or Lamborghini have done. This means that Genesis models will be developed independently in terms of platform, technology and operating capabilities, instead of just sharing technical basis from Hyundai or Kia.
Currently, initial technical development steps for the commercial version of the Magma GT have been deployed. Some internal sources say that this supercar model may be launched before 2030.
Design director Luc Donckerwolke said that the Magma GT development strategy has many similarities with how Nissan once built the GT-R line. Accordingly, the company may launch the standard version before expanding to higher performance variants, racing or roadster versions, accompanied by mid-life upgrades.
Notably, Genesis also plans to bring Magma GT to participate in GT3 races in the future and provide cars for private racing teams. This activity will be in charge of Cyril Abiteboul - Director of Hyundai Motorsport, to create a professional foundation for product development.
Further, Hyundai's luxury car brand is also considering the possibility of producing limited editions exclusively for the Magma line, similar to the strategy that Ferrari or McLaren are applying to enhance commercial value and brand image in the global high-performance car market.
