Every year, Vieng market (also known as Phu Day Vieng market, Vieng Xuan market) only has one session on the night of the 7th to the morning of the 8th day of the first lunar month, in front of Mr. Khong's communal house to front of Tien Huong main palace in An Thai commune, former Dong Doi canton; now Vu Ban commune, Ninh Binh province.
Today, Vieng market still retains cultural features from ancient times but is organized more large-scale, the market meeting space is large, often stretching from the old Goi town along National Highway 37B of Vu Ban commune to Hien Khanh commune.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Minh Hoan - Secretary of the Party Committee of Vu Ban commune - said that Vieng market is not only an annual cultural event, but also a milestone of profound significance, showing the persistent continuation in the journey of preserving and promoting the long-standing spiritual cultural values of the homeland. The festival is both a source of pride and honor for the Party Committee, government and people of Vu Ban, and also sets out a great responsibility in preserving, developing and elevating traditional cultural values in the new era.
Vieng Phu Day Market displays, introduces, and trades in a variety of products and utensils such as: seedlings, agricultural tools, handicrafts and household appliances. Through many ups and downs of history, this unique market is still preserved and developed.
Secretary of the Party Committee of Vu Ban commune emphasized that, to meet practical requirements and needs of tourists from all directions, this year Vieng Xuan Market is officially elevated to a festival, lasting from the 6th to the 8th day of the first lunar month and will be held for the first time. The innovation of organizational work does not change the nature and inherent beauty of the old market, but to proactively preserve, inherit and promote the unique traditional values of Vieng Xuan Market as well as the sacredness of the Phu Day religious space.
