Teacher Le Huy Phuong - Principal of Tra Don Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, Nam Tra My District, Quang Nam Province informed about the case of H.T.N.D (female, born in 2017). He was a student at Ong Phung branch school, Tra Don commune, and died of unknown causes.


Previously, D's younger brother G had signs of coughing, fever and was suspected of having measles.Worried about the suspected measles epidemic spreading strongly in Nam Tra My, teachers in the village went to the family's house to mobilize the family, asking Mr. Phuong to use personal vehicles to take the children to Tam Ky Children's Hospital (more than 60km from home) for emergency care.However, the family only agreed to admit G to the hospital alone in the early morning of March 7.
On the morning of March 9, D passed away and was buried by his family according to local customs.


About a week before, baby H.T.M.N (female, born in 2017, residing in Ong Binh peak, Tra Don commune) also had a cough, high fever and diarrhea.
The village health workers and teachers have repeatedly campaigned to take the child to the hospital, but the family has rejected him because they believe in worship to get rid of the disease. The child's condition became critical, he vomited, exhausted quickly and died on the afternoon of March 5.

According to Nam Tra My District Medical Center, within just one and a half months after Tet, the unit has received and treated 215 children with rash fever symptoms, with 19 cases confirmed positive for measles virus.
Currently, 151 children have recovered from their illness, 62 children are still being treated at the District Health Center, have reduced their fever but still cough.
In the face of the complicated epidemic situation, the Quang Nam Center for Disease Control has urgently deployed measures to control the epidemic, mobilize medical forces to villages, mobilize people to take children for vaccination; urgently vaccinate 1-10 year old children with measles - rubella vaccine.
