Prolonged fog
On March 3, the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting said that Hanoi will continue to maintain a state of drizzle, fog, high humidity, causing prolonged moisture. The area from Da Nang to the South will have sunny days, showers in the late afternoon and night, and some places in the Southeast will have hot weather.
The phenomenon of humid mud in Hanoi may end after the cold air mass is weakly strengthened, carrying strong Northeast winds of level 2-3 appearing on March 5-6, and being stronger on March 7-8, causing severe cold from March 7-10.
Mr. Nguyen Van Huong - Head of Weather Forecasting Department (National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting) - said: "The humid mud is taking place in Hanoi and many places in the North will last until the end of the weekend. Moisture is a common weather phenomenon in the spring in the North. Each period of moisture usually lasts from a few days to a week. Moisture will occur in the period from mid-February and last until early April. This phenomenon only stops or changes when strong cold air flows in or there is sunshine."
On March 3, according to the Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC), the number of measles cases in the city continues to have complicated developments, while hand, foot and mouth disease still recorded many new cases.
During the week from February 21 to February 28, Hanoi recorded 96 cases of measles, an increase of 8 cases compared to the previous week. Since the beginning of 2025, the whole city has had 625 measles cases in 30/30 districts, towns and cities. Notably, in the same period last year, the city did not record any cases.
Hanoi CDC believes that the number of measles cases is increasing mainly in the group that has not been vaccinated or has not been fully vaccinated. In particular, the number of cases in children aged 6-8 months tends to increase, and the epidemic is forecast to continue to develop complicatedly in the coming time.
High humidity creates favorable conditions for respiratory and allergic pathogens, especially affecting young children and the elderly. This weather also causes inconvenience to daily life, negatively affecting health.
Experts recommend that people wear masks when going out to limit the impact of pollution, while keeping their homes clean and avoid humid environments that create conditions for bacteria to grow.
The weather in the North is during the period of drizzle and humid mud, creating favorable conditions for pathogens to spread through the respiratory tract, including measles. Therefore, measles vaccination is a necessary measure to protect the health of children.
Currently, Hanoi is implementing a measles vaccination campaign for children aged 6 to under 9 months. As of February 27, all 30/30 districts, towns and cities have implemented the campaign, with 8,621/18,702 children vaccinated (reaching 46% of the plan). Of which, 7,647 children were vaccinated at health stations and 974 children were vaccinated at service facilities.
In the coming week, Hanoi CDC will continue to monitor the vaccination campaign and periodic vaccinations in the districts: Thanh Oai, Ung Hoa, Chuong My, Phuc Tho, Hoan Kiem, Bac Tu Liem, Dong Anh, Ha Dong, Hai Ba Trung.
Also last week, Hanoi recorded 35 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, distributed in 16 districts, towns with 30 communes, wards and towns. Although the number of cases increased slightly (1 more case compared to last week), there were no deaths.
Accumulated from the beginning of 2025, the city has recorded 165 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease, no deaths, an increase compared to the same period in 2024. The disease has appeared widely in 28 districts, towns and cities, including 2 active hand, foot and mouth outbreaks.
Hanoi CDC continues to closely monitor the development of the epidemic, and at the same time recommends that people take good epidemic prevention measures such as regular hand washing, personal hygiene, disinfecting children's belongings and getting fully vaccinated to protect public health.
