In 2019, Mr. Nguyen Khang Khuong unfortunately suffered from a serious illness, causing him to almost lose the ability to speak normally.
After a period of medical examination, the doctor diagnosed him with "capillary disease". Although he had undergone many surgeries, in the last time, the disease complicated into cancer. All the efforts of the young couple seem to have collapsed, and since then, both have been fighting the evil disease together until today.
Every year, Mr. Khuong has to undergo surgery, and has undergone it 4 times.
Ms. Cao Phuong Thao - a wife who is always by her husband's side and also endures equal mental pain - emotionally shared: "The last time I had surgery, the doctor told me: "Maybe this is the last surgery I can do to help my husband, because the tumor has spread to locations with many nerves, and cannot be intervened by surgery anymore". After hearing that statement, I almost collapsed.
After each time Mr. Nguyen Khang Khuong underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy, his brain was somewhat affected. Therefore, he chose to withdraw, live in a private space and not want anyone to get close. Faced with that great challenge, Ms. Phuong Thao always silently cares for and supports her husband mentally, constantly encourages and is always by his side.
The serious illness has also pushed Ms. Thao's family into a situation of selling all their assets to take care of her husband; however, Ms. Thao still finds small rays of hope.
She happily shared: During my battle with the disease, after 6 months of follow-up, the doctor told me that the tumor was under control. When I heard that, I was given a new faith, a new hope for him.
Because of the change in appearance after treatment, Mr. Khuong felt self-conscious and rarely appeared with his wife during outings. He often calls himself ugly as a ghost, ugly as a devil, thinking that he is not worthy of his wife. But now, he has become much more optimistic and happier than before.
Ms. Cao Phuong Thao shared with People's Artist Hong Van: "I will give you a last gift if unfortunately you are no longer lucky. I will give you a daughter - because that has been your dream for a long time.
Sharing with People's Artist Hong Van about her journey to overcome difficulties, Ms. Cao Phuong Thao emotionally said: "I myself don't understand why I can overcome everything. Maybe there is a superpower in me that helps me cope with this challenge. At first, I was very miserable.
The couple currently have two boys. Mr. Khuong always teaches his children to be independent, to know how to take care of each other, and to love their mother for him - if one day he is no longer around.
Ms. Cao Phuong Thao still does not regret choosing to stay by her husband's side to take care of him.
