Defendant Ngo Quang Canh (born in 1993, residing in Tan Bien ward, Bien Hoa, Dong Nai) was prosecuted for "Organizing gambling" and "Illegally collecting information about bank accounts".
Defendant Ly An (born in 1994), residing in Ward 2, District 11, Ho Chi Minh City, was prosecuted for "Organizing gambling" and "Illegal transportation of goods and currency across the border".
The two defendants Tran Quang Duong (born in 1988) and Nguyen Chi Minh (born in 1985), both residing in Ho Chi Minh City, were prosecuted for the crime of "Gambling".
7 defendants: Nguyen Trinh Hoang Vu (born in 1994), Ta Thanh Luan (born in 1993), Ta Hoang Gia Bao (born in 2000), Nguyen Van Hoang Hiep (born in 1997), Trinh Quoc Toan (born in 1998), Vu Trieu Huy (born in 1993), Phan Hong Nhat (born in 1988) (all residing in Tan Bien ward, Bien Hoa, Dong Nai) were prosecuted for the crime of "Organizing gambling".
In which, the Investigation Agency applied temporary detention measures to Ngo Quang Canh and Ly An, the remaining subjects were applied the measure of "Prohibition from leaving the place of residence".
These are defendants related to the online gambling ring, run by Shen Chia Chi, 44 years old, Taiwanese - Chinese nationality, in the form of betting on lottery results, football, online card games, dice, fish shooting... attracting hundreds of thousands of players.
Investigation results determined that from 2022 to June 2024, Shen Chia Chi entered Vietnam many times; opened 6 bank accounts in his name; illegally purchased and used 30 bank accounts and 40 e-wallets of many Vietnamese people attached to the intermediary payment system.
Extracting data from the payment system, the police determined that each day the deposit and withdrawal line was about 20 billion VND. The cash flow from the accounts transferred to Shen Chia Chi was 875 billion VND. This amount was used by Shen Chia Chi to buy virtual currency on Binance, OKX, Bitget to transfer out of Vietnam.
In June 2024, authorities searched and arrested Shen Chia Chi.
The case is under further investigation.
