On February 18, the People's Court of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province held a first-instance trial of Le Ngoc Long (born in 1980) for the crime of "Murder".
According to the indictment, at around 6:00 p.m. on August 19, 2024, Le Ngoc Long had a conflict and argument over the land boundary, so he used bricks, stones and helmets to throw at Ms. C's house (a neighbor). Seeing this, Ms. C's family called the Long Huong Ward Police to report.
Upon receiving the information, Long Huong Ward Police assigned officer N.M.T and 5 people from the grassroots security force to the scene to handle the incident.
Thinking that Mrs. C had called someone to beat him, Long prepared an 80cm long homemade knife in hand; hid a short knife and a scissor in his pants, waiting at the scene.
When Mr. T and 5 others in costumes arrived at the scene, Long suddenly swung a knife and slashed Mr. T in the face and fiercely resisted while being controlled by others.
According to the injury assessment, Mr. T had many injuries in his face, chest and arms, with a body injury rate of up to 23%.
According to the Trial Council, defendant Long's actions demonstrated his violent hooliganism, intentionally taking the life of a person on duty. The victim's death was unexpected by Long due to timely treatment but also many injuries.
Therefore, based on the case file and statements and details at the trial, the Trial Council sentenced Le Ngoc Long to 15 years in prison for the crime of "Murder" under Point d,n, Clause 1, Article 123 of the Penal Code; forced to compensate the victim with VND 235 million.
