People lose hundreds of millions because of online collaborator scams

Despite many warnings, many people continue to fall into the trap of becoming online collaborators because of sweet greetings.

Recently, on the Facebook group " Anti-fraud Community", Ms. Hoang Yen shared information about a new scam.

According to Ms. Yen, in early August 2025, through the Viber application, she received a message from a person named Nguyen Thai Trong, impersonating a recruiter of Viettel Military Industry - Telecommunications Group. This person invited her to participate in an online survey and even transferred 100,000 VND in advance to "support". After receiving the money, she was invited to participate in a "business project" with the group's partner, Ho Chi Minh City Construction - Construction of Ho Chi Minh City with the purpose of building a social security fund.

Next, Ms. Yen was instructed to enter revenue data on a platform to increase interaction and stock value, and was promised to share profits from advertising to allocate to the poor support fund. When asked to deposit 100,000 VND on the website phucloixoso******.com to receive a refund of principal and profit, Ms. Yen began to doubt. Checking information from Viettel Group, she learned that this unit does not have any such recruitment program.

In the groups "Online job scam photos", "Online work - scam warnings", "At-home job scam photos", hundreds of accounts have provided evidence of tricks to invite upgrading members to receive big rewards such as rings, cash or travel. The victim was assigned to transfer money in advance, approve the order, and then promised to receive the money and commissions back.

Accordingly, Tien Le's account was scammed when participating in the task at the Author****.vn website; or Nguyen Van Trung was invited to participate in the "detaining of orders" through his Home Store account and was promised to pay 275,000 VND/day, but in fact had to pay a large sum of money and could not be withdrawn. account Nhu Ngoc bitterly shared that he was scammed into entering the product code to Philips Company, when transferring 44 million VND to an account named T.O.M Brand Development Trading Service Company Limited without receiving a single VND back.

Most of the online job offers are in the form of a proposal to work as an online sales collaborator with a high salary of 10-15 million VND/month. When contacted, job seekers are often transferred to interact through applications such as Zalo, Viber or Telegram. Common forms of fraud include: transferring money in advance to get a job, impersonating a big brand and promising high commissions to exploit the psychology of workers needing urgent jobs.

Recently, in early August 2025, Ms. N.T.H (37 years old, in Thuong Cat ward, Hanoi) accepted to work as an online collaborator via Zalo application, promising a commission of 10-20% for each order. After 5 small orders worth 200,000-500,000 VND), she was upgraded to a special collaborator with "big order combos" and commissions worth tens of millions of VND. Trusting her, in 3 days she transferred a total of 340 million VND but was continuously reported for errors and asked to pay more money. When she discovered that she had been scammed, she could not contact the subjects who had instructed and recruited her.

According to the leader of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention - Hanoi City Police, recently, the situation of fraud in cyberspace has become complicated, with victims ranging from young people to the elderly. The scenario that subjects often use is interviewing via Zalo, Viber, Telegram; creating a website to "book virtual goods", refunding principal and commissions for the first few orders, then lures the "prey" into the trap.

Therefore, people should proactively monitor propaganda content through newspapers and television to update knowledge on fraud prevention and control. The authorities also warned: no company, business or legal e-commerce platform requires collaborators to " settle in advance" or place virtual orders to receive commissions. People need to be alert and vigilant to protect themselves. When detecting unusual signs, the victim needs to report to the police for timely handling.
