46,500 houses along canals in Ho Chi Minh City will be relocated in the next 5 years

MINH QUÂN |

Ho Chi Minh City aims to basically complete the relocation and resettlement of about 46,500 houses on and along canals by 2030.

This is the request made by Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai at the first meeting of the Steering Committee for the Project to relocate houses on and along rivers, canals and ditches in the city, in order to carry out urban beautification and exploit land funds for economic development.

The goal of the project is that by 2030, Ho Chi Minh City must basically complete the relocation and resettlement of about 46,500 houses on and along canals. This is to clear the flow, improve the environment, beautify the urban area and exploit land funds for economic development.

To achieve the goal, the Project focuses on two main tasks: Relocating and resettling all households on and along canals; Urban beautification combined with land exploitation.

Compensation policies will be applied flexibly. Eligible properties will be compensated at market prices and support policies will be fully utilized to increase public consensus.

After the Project is approved by the City Party Committee and the People's Council of Ho Chi Minh City, the People's Committee of Thu Duc City and the districts will be the direct implementing agencies, while the city and departments and branches will support in handling difficulties and problems.

Mr. Phan Van Mai requested the members of the Steering Committee and the Working Group to carefully study the draft documents of the Department of Construction and the City Development Research Institute, and at the same time contribute opinions and propose important contents for the effective implementation of the Project. The comments must be sent to the Department of Construction and the City Development Research Institute.

From December 20, the Department of Construction and the Institute for Development Research will complete the documents and sign them to continue implementing related work.

The Chairman of District 8 People's Committee continues to complete the project on building social housing and compensation policy for relocating houses along rivers, canals and ditches throughout the district, to be completed before December 25.

Assign the Chairman of the People's Committee of the district, town and Thu Duc City to urgently review and determine the location for relocating houses along rivers, canals and ditches. Propose auctioning of State-managed land (not in use) to generate revenue for the city budget. This must be completed and sent in writing to the Department of Planning and Architecture before December 30.

The Department of Planning and Architecture and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment are also assigned to review ineffective land areas so that they can be included in planning or auctioned to create financial resources for the Project.

The Institute for Urban Development Studies will continue to perfect the sociological survey and investigation plan, ensuring accurate results as a basis for land management, and resolutely handle land violations within the relocation area.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested the members of the Steering Committee and the Working Group to enhance their sense of responsibility, work urgently and resolutely to complete the Project on schedule. The development of the Project is an important task, of great significance to the future development of Ho Chi Minh City.
