According to Lao Dong's records on April 5, the 1st floor area of apartment building 51 Huynh Thuc Khang has now been cordoned off, preparing for the demolition and construction of a new building.
This apartment building is currently seriously degraded. The front part of block 1 collapsed, many concrete pillars are bent and tilted. Through inspection, city functional agencies have determined that the project is classified as class D dangerous house.
After being corrugated iron, the entire 1st floor area of the apartment building became densely packed, separated from the outside space. Stores that used to do business here simultaneously moved and posted notices of relocation.
Behind the green corrugated iron layer, the old building with many peeling walls, revealing rusty steel reinforcement, shows the serious level of degradation after more than three decades of use.
In many locations, large cracks appeared that lasted for a long time, and some parts clearly revealed beams and concrete floors that were corroded over time.

According to the approved plan, apartment building 51 Huynh Thuc Khang street will be rebuilt with 13 above-ground floors, one technical attic floor and 5 basements, on a land area of about 1,100m2, total floor area of more than 17,000m2.
The project is invested by Bach Khoa Investment and Development Joint Stock Company, which will arrange resettlement for 43 households with a new apartment area of about 1.3 times compared to before. The remaining area is developed into a commercial apartment complex to balance capital for project implementation.
Representatives of the leadership of Bach Khoa Investment and Development Joint Stock Company (Project Investor) said that according to the approved plan, after completing the handover of the site in April 2026, the construction unit will proceed to demolish the entire old project in the next 2 months.
The official groundbreaking ceremony is expected to take place in July 2026 and the entire new building will be handed over to residents in the fourth quarter of 2027.

Apartment building 51 Huynh Thuc Khang (Lang ward, Hanoi) was built in 1991.
In March 2011, unit 1 partially collapsed due to house number 49 next door collapsing. To ensure safety, 19 households in unit 1 were forced to urgently relocate to the temporary housing area in Dai Kim urban area, Hoang Mai ward.
Hanoi currently has about 2,160 old apartment buildings. The goal by 2035 is to renovate the entire system.
