One year after the Spanish and English women's teams faced each other in the World Cup final, their male colleagues will face each other in the EURO 2024 final.
This will be the 28th time Spain and England have met in 95 years. In the previous 27, Spain won 10, England won 14. And they also left memorable matches.
England 7-1 Spain, Germany (December 9, 1931)
Two years after Spain won 4-3 at their first meeting to become the first European team to beat England, the Three Lions welcome their opponents to Arsenal's old Highbury Stadium.
England took a cold revenge with a 7-1 victory. Tommy Johnson, Jack Smith and Sammy Crooks all scored twice, while Everton legend Dixie Dean scored once.
So far, Spain have never suffered a heavier defeat than that defeat in North London.
Spain 1-2 England, EURO 1968 quarter-final return (8.5.1968)
EURO 1968 has only 4 seats in the finals, meaning the quarter-finals are still part of the qualifiers. Spain and England have to play 2 matches to qualify for the final round.
The then-reigning world champions had a fragile advantage in the first leg with Bobby Charlton scoring the only goal at Wembley.
In the return trip to Madrid, Amancio brought the final score to a balance, however, the "Three Lions" lead was restored just 7 minutes later thanks to Martin Peters's header.
Then, Norman Hunter's goal in the 82nd minute took England to their first EURO.
England 0-0 Spain (4-2 penalty), EURO 1996 quarter-finals (22.6.1996)
The EURO 1996 knockout round opened with a match between England and Spain at the old Wembley Stadium, after both teams were unbeaten in the group stage.
Although there were no goals in the official match, the match was not without controversy. Spain did not recognize 2 goals due to offside, in which Salinas' perfect goal would have been recognized if there was VAR as it is today.
The extra 30 minutes also did not score, leading to a series of penalty shoots. Here, Fernando Hierro hit the crossbar, David Seaman blocked Miguel Angel Nadal's shot from Spain, while David Platt, Paul Gascoigne, Alan Shearer and Stuart Pearce from England all succeeded.
Anh 2-2 Spain, Friendship (15.11.2016)
The friendly match at Wembley marked the end of four games in charge of manager Gareth Southgate. Adam Lallana and Jamie Vardy helped England lead 2-0 and came very close to victory.
However, in the 89th minute, Iago Aspas shortened the score, before dramatically scoring in the 6th minute of injury time of the second half, Isco alarcon scored to level the score at 2-2.
After that match, Southgate officially became the head coach of the "Three Lions".
Spain 2-3 England, UEFA Nations League (15.10.2018)
The last meeting in the Nations League group stage witnessed a vibrant development. At Benito Villamarin Stadium in Seville, England destroyed the Spanish defense with 3 goals - 2 goals by Raheem Sterling, 1 goal by Marcus Rashford - within 38 minutes.
In the second half, Paco Alcacer and Sergio Ramos scored for Spain, but it was not enough to prevent England from qualifying for the Nations League finals.
