Ruben Amorim and his students have just suffered a penalty defeat against Fulham in the 5th round of the FA Cup. Thereby, Man United became the former champion of the tournament. This defeat further increases the prospect of a deadlock for The Red Devils at the end of the season. They are still in the Europa League when they have entered the 1/8 round, but the European arena still has many risks with a series of strong opponents.
In his post-match speech, Amorim was well aware of the team's current situation but he still stuck to the board's goal of winning the Premier League in the near future. At the end of 2024, the "Red Devils" leadership set a target of winning the Premier League in 2028. Amorim is steadfast in this goal but he has been criticised by an ex-Red Devils member Wayne Rooney, saying he should not be too naive.
"Given Man United's current position, I think it is naive to talk about that goal. They have a long way to go to win the championship" - Rooney shared on BBC Sport.

When asked about Rooney's statements, Amorim did not respond too harshly, in line with the Portuguese strategist's previous style. One thing worth noting in Amorim's shares is that he said he was not sure when the team would win the English championship next, and that he would still be in charge at Old Trafford.
" Man United's goal is to win the Premier League but I probably wouldn't be here until then. However, with all the pride in this team, we, from the staff to the board, are all willing to do that. Although Man United are in a difficult time, we will overcome it together and improve little by little.
I'm not naive, I'm 40 and I'm sitting here as Manchester United head coach," Amorim told Rooney.
Like his previous honest statements, Ruben Amorim has said everything he had in mind, including the possibility of leaving for the next few years, before Man United successfully returns. The team is in a mess and the 40-year-old strategist understands that he needs to revive everything in the near future, glory or splendor is a story of a very distant future.

Amorim once said that Man United is currently the worst version in history, that is true if looking at the team's current record in 3 domestic leagues. However, the "Red Devils" are still the only unbeaten team in the Europa League at the moment and are already sitting in the round of 16 waiting for Real Sociedad.
If Amorim can do a miracle by helping the "Red Devils" win this European Second Division championship and reach the Champions League next season, it will be the most perfect result.
