Arsenal started their journey to defend the Premier League title with a convincing 3-0 victory over Coventry at the Emirates.
The home team soon created an advantage when Kai Havertz opened the score in the 15th minute after a combination between Christos Tzolis and Riccardo Calafiori. 8 minutes later, Bukayo Saka took advantage of goalkeeper Carl Rushworth's mistake to volley, doubling the score for Arsenal.
After the break, Martin Odegaard completed the 3-0 victory with a finish in the penalty area. Arsenal then actively slowed down, successively withdrawing Saka, Declan Rice and Odegaard from the field to save energy for the next matches.
Coventry almost did not create significant danger. Frank Lampard's team returned to the Premier League after 25 years but had to face the defending champion and only had their first shot in the 86th minute.
Havertz is a bright spot on Arsenal's side. After scoring against Man City in the Community Shield, the German striker continued to score in the opening match, thereby consolidating his position in the race for a starting spot with Viktor Gyokeres.
This victory also helped Mikel Arteta reach the milestone of 150 wins in the Premier League after 249 matches in charge.
