Barcelona has officially announced the contract named Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United. The English striker signed a 5-year contract with the Camp Nou team.
The deal is initially worth 70 million Euros and could increase to more than 80 million Euros through additional terms. Barcelona has overcome competition from Bayern Munich and Liverpool to win the signature of the 25-year-old player.
Previously, Barcelona and Newcastle had reached an agreement on the transfer fee, paving the way for Gordon to complete a medical examination and officially debut for the Catalan team.
This is the biggest club in the world. Wearing the Barcelona shirt was my childhood dream and today that dream has come true. I understand that this shirt comes with a lot of responsibility. Many legends have worn it and I am ready to accept that challenge" - Gordon shared.
The highlight of the launch was Gordon confidently answering some questions in Spanish. The English player revealed that he learned this language many years ago because he always had hopes of playing for Barcelona one day.
I have a Spanish physical therapist at Newcastle and we talk to each other every day. I once told him that I wanted to play for Barcelona, so I started learning Spanish a long time ago," Gordon added.
After completing the debut ceremony, Gordon will join the England team to prepare for the 2026 World Cup according to coach Thomas Tuchel's call-up list.
Gordon's appearance is part of the plan to upgrade the attack that coach Hansi Flick is pursuing this summer. The English player specializes in playing on the left wing but can also play in the center forward position, bringing more options for the attack that already owns stars like Lamine Yamal and Raphinha.
