The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just sent an official dispatch to the People's Committees of provinces and cities on proactively responding to heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, hail, flooding, flash floods, and landslides.
According to the bulletin of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the evening of May 29 to May 31, the Southern region and Lam Dong province will have moderate rain, heavy rain and thunderstorms, locally very heavy rain with common rainfall of 60-120mm, locally over 250mm.
In the evening and night of May 29, the Northern and North Central regions will have rain from 15-30mm, locally heavy rain over 100mm; the eastern provinces from Gia Lai to Khanh Hoa and other places of the Central Highlands will have rain from 10-30mm, locally heavy rain over 60mm.
Heavy rain is likely to cause flooding in low-lying areas, urban and industrial areas; flash floods on small rivers and streams, landslides on slopes; thunderstorms are likely to occur with tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
To proactively respond to heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, hail, floods, flash floods, landslides, the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense proposes that the People's Committees of provinces and cities:
For heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, hail; flooding in urban areas, low-lying areas; landslides, flash floods in mountainous areas, especially Lam Dong province: Closely monitor warning bulletins, forecasts of heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, hail, flooding, flash floods, landslides; promptly inform local authorities and people to proactively take appropriate preventive measures; proactively review and evacuate people in areas at high risk of flash floods and landslides to safe places; be ready with on-site forces to promptly support people to overcome consequences (if any).
Strengthen information and communication work, especially grassroots information lines to update information, propagate, disseminate and guide people on skills to respond to heavy rain, tornadoes, lightning, hail, floods, flash floods, landslides to proactively prevent, avoid, and minimize damage.
Be on duty seriously, regularly report to the National Steering Committee for Civil Defense (through the Department of Dyke Management and Disaster Prevention and Control - Ministry of Agriculture and Environment).
