Early morning of January 22 (Vietnam time), Barcelona traveled to Lisbon after 5 consecutive wins in the Champions League. But the visitors had a bad start when they fell behind after only 2 minutes. Alvaro Carreras opened the scoring with a cross-angle shot that defeated goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
In the 13th minute, Tomas Araujo fouled Alejandro Balde in the box, giving the Catalan giants a penalty. Lewandowski converted it to help them equalize.
However, Barcelona's defense played too slowly, along with Szczesny's mistake, allowing Pavlidis to easily complete his hat-trick in the 30th minute. Benfica led 3-1 after a breathtaking first 45 minutes.
In the second half, it was Benfica's goalkeeper's turn to make a mistake. Trubin passed the ball straight to Raphinha without any pressure. The ball hit the Brazilian's head and went into the net in the 64th minute.
A few minutes later, Barcelona's defense "gave" the opponent a goal when Araujo clumsily kicked the ball into his own net, maintaining the gap at 4-2 for Benfica. However, the visitors did not give up. They continued to put pressure and got a goal to reduce the score from the 11m mark thanks to Lewandowski.
Garcia shone in the final minutes with an accurate header to equalize 4-4. In the 6th minute of injury time, Barcelona had a quick counterattack and Raphinha defeated Trubin in a face-off, sealing a 5-4 victory for the Spanish representative.
This result helps Hansi Flick's team officially qualify for the Champions League round of 16 with second place in the group, regardless of how the final round plays out. Meanwhile, Benfica dropped to 18th place, qualifying for the play-off round.
