Recently, General Secretary of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Seri Windsor Paul John said that the agency is reviewing the incident of Selangor FC fans causing trouble at MBPJ Stadium on the evening of November 6, and affirmed that strict handling measures will be applied if security violations are detected.
According to Malaysian press, the incident occurred after Selangor FC lost to Persib Bandung (Indonesia) with a score of 2-3, leading to an early elimination from the group stage of the AFC Champions League Two 2025-2026.
Many extreme fans flooded onto the stadium, looking for ways to approach the team's leadership. Meanwhile, outside the stadium, crowds gathered to protest and demanded the resignation of CEO Johan Kamal Hamidon.
Mr. Windsor Paul John emphasized: "The AFC will collect full reports from stakeholders. If loopholes are discovered in security work, disciplinary measures will be implemented. We also need to assess whether we need to strengthen security regulations for continental tournaments in the coming time."
The above incident further complicated Malaysian football, in the context that the country is still affected by the illegal naturalization scandal of 7 players of foreign origin. The incident has been sanctioned by FIFA and is likely to affect the results of the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
Local media believes that the recent series of incidents not only affects the image of Malaysian football, but also puts the Football Association of this country (FAM) under great pressure from public opinion.
AFC said the federation's Disciplinary Committee will be the unit that will directly handle the case after synthesizing a detailed report.
"Emotions in football are inevitable, but control and discipline measures must be strictly followed to ensure the safety and image of this sport," Windsor Paul John added.
