In order to help Spain's top leagues get the ball back, the La Liga and Segunda (second) teams are testing the players. And the initial results showed that there were at least 5 cases of COVID-19 infection.
According to RAC1, 2 of those cases belonged to a Segunda team and the rest belonged to 3 La Liga clubs. The test results have not been fully announced by the organizing committee, so the number of COVID-19 cases in the two top tournaments in Spain may be even higher.
The identities of these players and clubs will not be made public. Not only that, La Liga and the authorities will also wait for the final data synthesis to come up with a solution. In the immediate future, infections will be quarantined and treated in accordance with Spanish health regulations.
COVID-19 testing was carried out before the teams gathered to practice again. Thanks to that, players and coaches minimize direct contact. If there are no positive cases, exercise sessions will be conducted without worrying about being near the "source".
Barcelona is one of the first teams allowed to return to training after testing results. In the acceptance test on May 7, all players of the "C catalan Giants" first team were negative for COVID-19, except for striker Ousmane Dembele who did not test due to a long-term injury.
The teams will return to practice with a limit on the number of members. Initially, this number will be allowed to exceed 6 people on the field and gradually increase until everything returns to normal. This means that tournaments are ready to be restarted.
In an interview with Marca Claro (Mexico), coaches Leganes and Javier Aguirre revealed that La Liga could return on June 20 and aim to end the 2019/20 season on July 26.
"I have received information about the restart date of La Liga. We will return on June 20 and end on July 26. The organizers also announced that the matches will take place on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday, and Sunday," Mr. Rafael Aguirre shared.
