Valencia striker Rafa Mir has been arrested by Spanish police on suspicion of sexual assault, the Castellon club said on Tuesday (September 3).
A spokesman for the Guardia Civil confirmed that a La Liga player was arrested in Valencia for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman but did not reveal her name.
The 25-year-old woman who was attacked accused Mir and a friend, Marca added.
The on-loan Sevilla player failed to attend training at the Paterna training ground on Tuesday morning. He is believed to have sexually assaulted the woman at his home. His friend has also been arrested.
The victims filed a complaint after requesting hospital care, according to Cadena SER.
Mir spent the night in the Valencia Command cell, located on Calamocha Street in the capital Turia, where he will be questioned and appear in court on Wednesday (4.9).
According to multiple sources, the incident occurred early Saturday morning to Sunday, when the player hosted a party at his home in a town near Valencia.
According to El Mundo, after some neighbors called the police, they filed a complaint.
Investigators also took a statement from the victim's friend, a 21-year-old woman who is believed to have witnessed the incident.
Valencia have not commented on the matter while the investigation is ongoing. A statement from the La Liga side reads: "Regarding the media reports about Rafa Mir, the club is aware of the aforementioned arrest and, without further details of the case, can only state at this time that the club will cooperate with the requests of the judicial system."
Rafa Mir arrived at Valencia this summer after two unsuccessful attempts to sign him.
This summer, Valencia once again pursued Rafa Mir due to the interest of coach Ruben Baraja, who knew him from his youth team days. The loan deal was signed with an option to buy for €5 million.
Rafa Mir has started three of Valencia's four games this season but has not played a full game. In the most recent game, against Villarreal, he played 21 minutes after coming on in the second half.
