Mr. Kim Pan-gon has resigned as Malaysia coach after 3 years of leadership. The Korean strategist has a winning rate of 54.29% - the second highest among coaches who have led the Malaysian team. Mr. Kim Pan-gon returned to Korea to accept the same position at Ulsan Hyundai club.
Finding a replacement for Kim Pan-gon is an urgent requirement of the Football Federation of Malaysia (FAM). In the immediate future, Pau Marti Vicente is acting as interim coach of the Malaysia team. According to The Star (Malaysia), FAM is willing to pay a salary of 60,000 USD/month to convince Mr. Park Hang-seo to take the position left by compatriot Kim Pan-gon.
The former Vietnam national team coach also received support from Malaysian football experts and leaders. Mr. Sulaiman Hussin - Technical Director of the Kuala Lumpur Football Association (KLFA) believes that Mr. Park Hang-seo is the right person to lead the Malaysian team.
He told The Star: "Pau Marti could be suitable in the short term because he has learned a lot from Pan-gon. However, I feel FAM must find a more suitable replacement. But that That doesn't mean we don't want Vicente to succeed.
If he can continue Kim Pan-gon's legacy and improve the national team, he should be allowed to continue. But if not, FAM must bring in an experienced coach who can adapt to our culture. Sometimes a coach will have success with team A but then fail to make an impact with team B.
Mr. Park Hang-seo has brought Vietnamese football to a new level. If he becomes national team coach, I hope he will receive the necessary support.
I believe he is the right candidate because of his personality. In fact, his approach is even more aggressive and our players must be prepared for this.”
Mr. Park Hang-seo has spent nearly 6 years leading the Vietnamese team very successfully, with the team winning the AFF Cup 2018, entering the 3rd qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup, winning the SEA Games gold medal twice... After leaving the team , he still lives regularly in Vietnam, carrying out personal projects.
Mr. Park was once considered a candidate to lead the Indian team, but now this team in the South Asian region has a new coach. Therefore, the opportunity for Mr. Park to become the coach of the Malaysian team becomes even brighter.
