Bruno's new record
Bruno Fernandes has equaled the record for the most assists in a Premier League season, with the 20th assist in the 2025-2026 season when Man United defeated Nottingham Forest 3-2 on May 17.
With an assist for Bryan Mbeumo's goal in the 76th minute, Fernandes has equaled the achievement that Thierry Henry achieved in the 2002-2003 season and Kevin De Bruyne in the 2019-2020 season.
Everyone knows that having another assist is very important. My teammates tried their best to score from my passes. Maybe today there are times when I should pass the ball instead of finishing, but I am very happy with this assist," Bruno said after the match.
Bruno almost broke the record when he created a scoring opportunity in injury time for Diogo Dalot, but this player shot against the post.
The Portuguese midfielder can still set a new record with 21 assists in a season, when Man United visits Brighton & Hove Albion's stadium next Sunday in the final match of the season.
What makes Bruno's achievement remarkable is that his first assist in the season only came on October 19, 2025, when he assisted Harry Maguire to score the decisive goal in the 2-1 victory over Liverpool.
Bruno's assists helped Man United win 21 points in the Premier League season 2025-2026, which is also a record for the number of points a player has achieved in a season. The previous record was 17 points, created by Darren Anderton for Tottenham Hotspur in the 1994-1995 season.
Bruno also had 10 assists from set pieces. Therefore, he could break the record that Steven Gerrard holds for the number of assists from set pieces in a season, with 11 in the 2013-2014 season.
Currently Bruno has had 103 assists in all competitions for Man United, ranking fourth in the list of players with the most assists for the Red Devils after Ryan Giggs (249), Wayne Rooney (127) and David Beckham (115).
Leading the opportunity ranking
Fernandes also has excellent achievements in creating chances, regardless of whether those chances are converted into goals or not (becoming assists).
Since joining Man Utd on February 1, 2020, the Portuguese player has created 670 scoring chances for his team in the Premier League, significantly more than any other player in the same period.
Former Man City midfielder De Bruyne had the second highest total chances created since then, with 432 chances before he left at the end of last season. Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah, who played in the Premier League during Fernandes' time at Man United, created 411 chances.
