M.U has successfully signed Harry Maguire from Leicester City for a transfer fee of £85 million, making the 26-year-old Englishman the world's most expensive defender, breaking the old record of Virgil Van Dijk and Matthijs De Ligt.
Coming to Old Trafford, Harry Maguire has also become the second most expensive Red Devils star in the club's history after midfielder Paul Pogba. The 1993-born rookie signed a 6-year contract with his new team, with an automatic extension of one more year until the summer of 2026. He will also likely wear the No. 5 shirt to take over from the legendary Rio Ferdinand.
Speaking at the new club's launch ceremony, Harry Maguire happily said: "I am happy and proud to be a part of this great club now. I have grown up and really enjoyed my time at Leicester. I would like to express my sincere thanks to everyone, especially my teammates and the wonderful fans for their wholehearted support over the past two seasons.
"M.U is simply a unique opportunity that I cannot refuse. I spoke to the coach and felt interested in the vision as well as the plans he had for us. This is definitely a team built to win and defend titles. I look forward to meeting and practicing with my new teammates to prepare for the upcoming exciting season.
In addition, coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also gave a winning statement to his new student: Harry is one of the best centre-backs in the world at the moment. We are happy to have his signature. Harry has a tall, strong body and the ability to read the game very well, as well as the calmness to withstand all pressure."
The Red Devils have spent almost the entire summer chasing Leicester City's centre-back, not to mention Harry Maguire's performance here, this deal is considered by many to be a high buy. Even Man City withdrew early because they could not meet the price offered by the Foxes. However, Maguire could still reassure fans about Man United's defence after all, as his ability is clearly superior to Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.
Harry Maguire is expected to make his Red Devils debut this weekend, when M.U host Chelsea in a big match at Old Trafford in the opening round of the Premier League 2019-200.
