During a training session with Real Madrid in Miami to prepare for the FIFA Club World Cup, Kylian Mbappe suddenly suffered from acute gastroenteritis and had to be hospitalized on June 18.
Although he was discharged from the hospital the next day, he still had to be completely quarantined to avoid the risk of infection to his teammates.
His health condition prevented Mbappe from making an appearance in Real Madrid's first two matches, drawing 1-1 with Al Hilal and beating Pachuca 3-1. According to the team's medical department, he lost 75kg to 70kg in just a few days, clearly affecting his physical condition and muscles.
Mbappe started light training at the gym on June 23 and attended the team's general training session on June 25 with a rather optimistic spirit.
However, coach Xabi Alonso decided not to risk using him in the match against Salzburg in the final round of the group stage on June 27. Instead, young player Gonzalo Garcia - who scored in the opening match - will be given a chance.
Real Madrid currently have 4 points after 2 matches and need another 1 point to qualify for the 1/8 round of the FIFA Club World Cup. The caution with Mbappe is considered a reasonable step to preserve the French star's fitness in the upcoming period.
