According to Mirror, Kylian Mbappe agreed to join Liverpool 2 years ago but PSG rejected the English team's offer. Therefore, this deal could not take place.
The Frenchman joined Real Madrid this summer, ending a seven-year stay in Paris. Mbappe had previously considered Liverpool as a possible destination. Back in the summer of 2022, Mbappe and PSG were at odds over the France captain's future.
It seems that Mbappe will move on to another team, with Real Madrid and Liverpool being potential destinations. The Kop and Mbappe have even agreed personal terms, but PSG have rejected an offer of £168 million.
According to L'Equipe, PSG wanted to double Liverpool's offer and Mbappe's hopes of moving to Anfield ended. The player agreed to sign a new two-year contract with an option to extend for another year in May 2022. This agreement will help Mbappe receive a large bonus.
However, the relationship between Mbappe and PSG is not very good and the French striker has repeatedly emphasized his desire to leave before the deadline. This angered the PSG leadership and they tried to sell Mbappe to the Saudi Pro League.
The 2018 World Cup winner remained at the Parc des Princes, however, winning more domestic honours but missing out on the Champions League, before joining the Bernabeu. Los Blancos have been chasing Mbappe for years, ever since he was a teenager at AS Monaco.
Liverpool have also been linked with Mbappe throughout Jurgen Klopp's tenure. If successful, the deal would go against the Kop's ethos of not spending too much on a player. In fact, Klopp has repeatedly stressed this point, given the huge sums Liverpool would have to invest in Mbappe.
"I can say that Mbappe is a really good player, but the financial situation does not suit us. I don't want to ruin this story right now, but as far as I know, there is nothing.
Maybe someone else at the club is preparing something and wants to surprise me. That has never happened in my eight years here," said the German strategist.
Before Mbappe left PSG, Klopp also said he would be surprised if any club wanted to sign the French player. The reason was Mbappe's huge bonus and salary. However, Real Madrid eventually closed the deal, with Mbappe receiving £12.8 million a year after tax at the Bernabeu.
