Man City suffered a painful 1-2 defeat against Man United last weekend. Their mistakes cost them dearly as they conceded two goals in the final minutes of the match.
Pep Guardiola's side have now lost eight of their last 11 games in all competitions. In the Premier League alone, City have lost two of their last three games in which they have led at half-time.
Along with a patchwork midfield and injured defensive pillars, the strikers' missed chances have also contributed to the team's crisis. They have had the most shots in the Premier League this season but their conversion rate is just 9.9% - the lowest since the 2006-2007 season.
City have now dropped to fifth in the table, nine points behind leaders Liverpool. Another poor result will further distance their chances of breaking through and returning to the title race.
On the other hand, Aston Villa are also struggling after a positive start to the season. Having to compete in both the Premier League and the Champions League is a big test for Villa's squad depth. Unai Emery's team have lost four consecutive away games in the English top flight.
However, they are unbeaten in their last seven games at Villa Park. A win would see Villa leapfrog Man City in the standings at the weekend. The inconsistent form of both teams promises to create an unpredictable game with plenty of surprises.
Expected lineup
Aston Villa: Martinez; Konsa, Carlos, Torres, Digne; Kamara, Tielemans; Cash, Rogers, McGinn; Watkins
Manchester City: Ederson; Walker, Dias, Gvardiol, Lewis; Kovacic; Silva, De Bruyne, Foden, Doku; Haaland
