Man City extended their unbeaten run in all competitions in the 2024-25 season to 12 games after beating Wolves 2-1 on Sunday.
This victory created a new milestone for the club when they are unbeaten in 31 consecutive Premier League matches (won 25, drew 6). In the Champions League, The Citizens are also facing the opportunity to make history.
If they avoid defeat against Sparta Prague, Man City will set a new record for the longest unbeaten run in European Cup/Champions League history. They are currently on a 25-match unbeaten run (W17 D8), scoring 64 goals and conceding just 18. Most recently, Man City beat Slovan Bratislava 4-0 in Slovakia three weeks ago.
If they avoid defeat at the Etihad, City will also surpass Real Madrid's record of 32 unbeaten home games set in 1990.
On the other side, this is Sparta Prague's first Champions League appearance in nearly two decades. They had a surprising start when they won 4 points after the opening two matches (won Red Bull Salzburg, drew Stuttgart).
Sparta will have the chance to test their mettle in the Champions League against Man City. Lars Friis's side have won just four of their previous 22 meetings with English clubs, most recently losing 11-2 on aggregate to Liverpool in the Europa League last 16 last season.
Although Man City are having problems defending, they are almost invincible at home. The superior quality of the squad will also help Pep Guardiola and his students dominate the visitors.
Expected lineup:
Man City: Ederson; Lewis, Akanji, Dias, Gvardiol; Gundogan, Nunes; Bernardo, Foden, Grealish; Haaland
Sparta Prague: Vindahl; Vitik, Panak, Zeleny; Preciado, Kairinen, Laci, Wiesner; Birmancevic, Rrahmani, Haraslin
