Recently, the Professional Game Regulation Authority (PGMOL) in England announced the dismissal of referee David Coote.
“Following the conclusions of a thorough investigation into David Coote, his contract with PGMOL is terminated from today with immediate effect,” PGMOL’s website reads.
David Coote was suspended after November 11 following a viral video showing the 42-year-old referee making insulting remarks about former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Three days later, The Sun published a video of David Coote allegedly inhaling a white powder in his hotel room while on duty at EURO 2024. The video was filmed on July 6, right after he completed his duties as a VAR assistant in the quarter-final match between France and Portugal.
In addition, the English Football Association (FA) also opened an investigation into this referee due to suspicions of betting within the framework of the Premier League.
In the match between Leeds United and West Brom in October 2019, Coote showed Alioski a yellow card in the 18th minute. This action is suspected to be related to betting.
David Coote last officiated the match between Liverpool and Aston Villa on November 9. Born in Nottinghamshire, he made his Premier League debut in the 2017-18 season. He was named to the Select One list - the highest level of refereeing in England - from the 2018-19 season.
