Roman Abramovich's legal team believes that the amount of 2.35 billion pounds when selling Chelsea in 2022 completely belonged to the Russian billionaire legally. 4 years ago, after the conflict in Ukraine, Roman Abramovich was reluctant to sell Chelsea under great pressure. However, since then, he has not received the above amount.
Currently, that amount of 2.35 billion pounds is still in a bank account owned by Fordstam Ltd. This is a company owned by Abramovich himself but headquartered in London. Therefore, it is not easy for the 59-year-old billionaire to withdraw this money to Russia in the context of an unreconcilable conflict.
Roman Abramovich's team of lawyers believes that the host country is trying to freeze this amount as a punishment for the former owner of Chelsea, even though it is simply a transaction to buy and sell the ownership of a sports club.
Forstam Ltd's latest financial report was released in November 2025, but this is the figure for the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2022, showing that £1.4 billion out of a total of £2.35 billion is the debt of Camberley International Investments Limited. This is a company registered in Jersey, an island nation in northwestern France.
Jersey has its own financial and legal system, not belonging to the United Kingdom. This leads to the question of whether the £1.4 billion is really just money from selling ownership? Or is it the amount Abramovich lent to Chelsea? If it is Abramovich's money lent to The Blues, he has the right to recover it reasonably, at least this £1.4 billion.

But in contrast to Abramovich, the view that this money was recorded in Jersey raises questions about its "cleanliness". As long as the proof that this money is legal in lending to Chelsea is not transparent, Abramovich will find it very difficult to recover it.
After Chelsea was transferred to Todd Boehly, they have not been able to win more major titles such as the Premier League or Champions League. The most notable recent championship is the FIFA Club World Cup 2025 title, but under Abramovich, The Blues also reached it.
Contrary to the deep working style and desire to develop the team's internal strength like Abramovich, Boehly's team wants to turn Chelsea into a more commercial place. In the past 4 years, there was a time when Chelsea's first team had up to 47 players, but most of them were cases of being bought and sold to make a profit. This approach of the new leadership group is financially beneficial but does not really receive great consensus from fans.

Currently, Chelsea still plays in 3 arenas: Premier League, FA Cup and Champions League. The opportunity to win the Premier League is considered to be over, but the chance to win the cup in the remaining 2 arenas is still intact.
In the Champions League round of 16, Chelsea will face PSG. Meanwhile, in the FA Cup quarter-finals, Liam Rosenior's team will have a confrontation with the phenomenon Port Vale.
