The Portuguese star only needs one more goal to reach the milestone of 900 goals in his career, at the club and national team levels. However, Ronaldo has even greater ambitions, reaching the milestone of 1,000 goals to make a bold mark in the king sport.
In a live interview with former England star Rio Ferdinand broadcast on his YouTube channel, Ronaldo shared a lot of important information.
"I want to reach 1,000 goals. If I don't get injured, this is the most important thing for me, I want to achieve it. For me, the best milestone I can achieve in football is to first score 900 goals. Then the challenge for myself will be 1,000 goals," Ronaldo shared.
If he maintains his current form and fitness, Ronaldo can completely achieve this goal at the age of 41. As an ambitious player, Ronaldo also pointed out that his goals will be different from past stars such as the late Pele or Pele and Alfredo Di Stefano.
In the era of these stars, video cameras were not yet common, leading to some of their goals not being fully authenticated.
But Ronaldo is different.
"All the goals I scored have video evidence. I respect all of them, Pele and Di Stefano, and if I want more goals, I can bring them back from training. But I will prove to everyone the goals I scored. People have the right to like this player, that player, or who is the best, I don't care about that," he said.
When asked about adapting to playing football in Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo said it was quite easy because he had to go through many challenges since starting his career at a young age.
“No league is perfect, so for me it was easy to adapt and I really enjoyed it. The league in Saudi Arabia is very good and competitive,” said the Al Nassr star.
At EURO 2024, Ronaldo did not score any goals for Portugal. His most memorable moment was when he burst into tears after missing a penalty kick in the round of 16 against Slovenia. Portugal later beat their opponents 3-0 in the penalty shootout.
Ronaldo said those tears were the result of the pressure he had put on himself since he was 11 years old.
“I cried because I put pressure on myself since I was 11 years old. ‘Cristiano, you are the best player in the world’, I always told myself that. But when I missed the penalty, I felt bad for myself, for the fans and my family, not because of what people thought,” Ronaldo emphasized.
At the age of 39, the former Man United and Real Madrid star is in the final stages of his career, but Ronaldo is still not sure when he will retire.
"I don't know when my career will end. Because the more you play, the more you learn. One thing I've learned is to enjoy the present moment, because you never know what will happen tomorrow.
I know I look good. At some point, when I start to feel like I can't create anything anymore, I will pack up and leave. But that's a long way off," Ronaldo concluded.
